Pirate Party!

Before Rea broke her foot, we had some friends over for a water playdate. Dad nailed a GIANT blue tarp to the ground and I inflated the pirate ship and set out the slip-n-slide.

Naturally, it stormed on the afternoon I had planned for our friends. So for a little while, we took the party indoors. Luckily, the rain clouds cleared out - the kiddos seemed to have a BLAST on the slip-n-slide. Shane and Jose were awesome! They chucked kids down the slide... I tried to slide one of Rea's friends down, and when he got to the bottom, he said "I think I need a dad to do this."Hahaha. Oh kids and their brutal honesty.

More slip-n-slide fun will be had this month... I just have to find a good Saturday to do it.

Oh, and Rea got her cast off!! Yay! Water things - Here she comes!!!

Doesn't she look excited?!?! =)

1 Year of School Down...

... Only 17 more.

I can't believe that Rea's first year of school has ended. Seriously, time flies when you are a grown up. I can remember feeling as though the school year would NEVER end as a kid (and truthfully, sometimes as a teacher). But now that I have a "school-age child," I feel like I blinked and it passed!

I still remember the buzz of excitement at our house on the morning of her first day. I remember wanting to capture every minute of it on camera, but that the rain refused to let me take a bunch of "front door" pics.

The cast on her foot never slowed her down... and I don't think she cared that she was being pushed in a stroller. I didn't anticipate it being such a tear-filled morning for me either. I was overwhelmed by the moment. It was so sad to say "good-bye" to teachers and friends. It's not like we aren't going to see them again... I mean, Rea was in camp with a bunch of the kiddos and 2 of the teachers a week later. But still.

Rea is so proud (as she should be) and is eagerly awaiting the start of Pre-K in August!

Continuing Fracture...

I got sidetracked with an entry about the boyfriend. I apologize.

We have been trying not to let the cast slow us down. And for the most part, it hasn't. Although there is that pesky "no water rule". Blah.

So here are a few things we have been doing:

Chillin' on the couch multitasking (iPad & watching Star Wars)

Playing with Buddy at the pirate water table (not many ppl can pull off the garbage bag look, but it works for Rea)

Goofing around with Zachy

Squishing Aunt Jack with every step

On "Pirate and Princess Day," Rea went as Princess Leia - duh.

Working hard in the frame shop with Mommy - She is our resident scrapbooker.

At Buc Buddy meet & greet at school

And that kids, brings us to the end of May. Even though I am publishing this at the end of June. More late entries to come!

Dating??? Already???

You know, I really thought we had a few years before Rea would find a boy she fancied and start dating. I was wrong.

Much to Shane's sha-grin, Rea is head over heels for a boy. His name is RJ. Even though I am horrified that they are only 4, I am happy with her selection. Luckily, she isn't following in her Mommy's footprints (Mommy liked really bad boys for a long time).

I know what you're thinking, they are only 4, they aren't really dating. Well, try telling them that! I dare you. One of Rea's female friends told her that she loved her the other day... Rea was so upset because she was afraid RJ would stop loving her if he found out that M loved Rea too. That was a fun one to explain and discuss.

So, let me share with you some of their young love. They are simply adorable together. It will be interesting to see how the summer goes.

Here is RJ trying to sneak into our car... he can't stand for Rea to leave =)

Young love. Seriously, is there anything cuter?

No. I don't think so.

A Fracture in Our Fun

One night at the end of May, Rea & Shane went out for a bike ride. Shane called my cell and said that they had had an accident and they needed to be picked up in a car.

Nothing will stop your heart faster than that.

Luckily, it wasn't as dire as my hubby made it sound. Apparently, they were about 5 miles from home when Shane told Rea they needed to turn around because it was late. Rea threw a tiny tantrum. And in her fit of rage, she stuck her foot in the wheel of the bike. It stopped them dead and flipped both over the handlebars. When we got them back home, Rea's foot was swollen and bruised.

We took Rea to the ER for an X-ray. We thought it would be best to have it checked right away. The entire ride there, Rea cried and kept apologizing to us. It was so sad. I couldn't tell if her foot or her guilt was bothering her more. We continuously assured her that she's not in any kind of trouble, no one is upset with her.
This photo seriously breaks my heart.

After 5+ hours in the ER waiting room, we received the verdict: double fracture. Yay. The ER put a temporary cast on and we were to find an ortho in the next day or two.

I called a friend the next day for an ortho recommendation. She is one, but she doesn't work on kiddos. But I figured she would know who to go see. We were able to get an appointment that day. Dr. S said, "3 weeks in the cast. Don't walk on it."
In the waiting room... She's a little nervous.

Post-casting - pain meds have kicked in.

A friend from school made Rea a get well card - SO cute!

Target makes everything better... games and toys to keep us busy.

Playing Star Wars Trouble
The next few weeks were ok. We had to skip a friend's birthday party because it was at a local water park, and Rea's unable to get her cast wet. But we did attend Noah's Star Wars party! There was absolutely NO way Rea was going to miss out on that! Honestly, I was a little apprehensive because it was at an indoor kid gym and I wasn't sure if Rea would even be able to participate in any of the fun. But Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper were going to make an appearance - She would've disowned me if I made her skip that.

It ended up being just fine. She figured out that she could crawl from place to place. And she mastered climbing the slide ladders on her knees. I am so proud that she didn't let it slow her down one bit.

Rea & her boyfriend (RJ) - Oh boy...

My awesome friend Christina makes cakes... both delish and gorgeous!

I LOVE the Storm Troopers marshmallow pop!
Happy birthday Noah! Thanks for inviting us to a great party!

More fractured fun to come... =) This entry is a little lengthy.
