A Fracture in Our Fun

One night at the end of May, Rea & Shane went out for a bike ride. Shane called my cell and said that they had had an accident and they needed to be picked up in a car.

Nothing will stop your heart faster than that.

Luckily, it wasn't as dire as my hubby made it sound. Apparently, they were about 5 miles from home when Shane told Rea they needed to turn around because it was late. Rea threw a tiny tantrum. And in her fit of rage, she stuck her foot in the wheel of the bike. It stopped them dead and flipped both over the handlebars. When we got them back home, Rea's foot was swollen and bruised.

We took Rea to the ER for an X-ray. We thought it would be best to have it checked right away. The entire ride there, Rea cried and kept apologizing to us. It was so sad. I couldn't tell if her foot or her guilt was bothering her more. We continuously assured her that she's not in any kind of trouble, no one is upset with her.
This photo seriously breaks my heart.

After 5+ hours in the ER waiting room, we received the verdict: double fracture. Yay. The ER put a temporary cast on and we were to find an ortho in the next day or two.

I called a friend the next day for an ortho recommendation. She is one, but she doesn't work on kiddos. But I figured she would know who to go see. We were able to get an appointment that day. Dr. S said, "3 weeks in the cast. Don't walk on it."
In the waiting room... She's a little nervous.

Post-casting - pain meds have kicked in.

A friend from school made Rea a get well card - SO cute!

Target makes everything better... games and toys to keep us busy.

Playing Star Wars Trouble
The next few weeks were ok. We had to skip a friend's birthday party because it was at a local water park, and Rea's unable to get her cast wet. But we did attend Noah's Star Wars party! There was absolutely NO way Rea was going to miss out on that! Honestly, I was a little apprehensive because it was at an indoor kid gym and I wasn't sure if Rea would even be able to participate in any of the fun. But Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper were going to make an appearance - She would've disowned me if I made her skip that.

It ended up being just fine. She figured out that she could crawl from place to place. And she mastered climbing the slide ladders on her knees. I am so proud that she didn't let it slow her down one bit.

Rea & her boyfriend (RJ) - Oh boy...

My awesome friend Christina makes cakes... both delish and gorgeous!

I LOVE the Storm Troopers marshmallow pop!
Happy birthday Noah! Thanks for inviting us to a great party!

More fractured fun to come... =) This entry is a little lengthy.
